KEEPING YOUR COLOR FRESH IN BETWEEN SALON VISITS
/Here’s the thing- you spend a LOT on your hair color, not only money but time! So I always recommend you protect that investment with an at-home routine that will keep your color looking better longer. Why only get 5 weeks when you can get 8+ of rich color and shine!? Here’s how: [video here]
Post color wait to shampoo hair for 48 hours - Time goes a long way to heal all wounds. Hopefully your hair isn’t actually wounded but we do have to open up the pores in your hair to distribute color, and those pores need a couple days to close down after each color. So, wait to wash.
First 3 shampoos, use cool water - Cool water helps to close down those pores even faster, resulting in a better hold for the color molecules. So for me this means washing over the edge of the tub, and not in the shower- because I DO NOT DO COLD SHOWERS!
Remove minerals from your water - If you don’t already have a soft-water filter on your homes water supply, you can add a filter straight to your shower itself. This guy will collect all of the chlorine and minerals in your water that strip out the color and shine. Replace the filter every few months, and you’ll love how your hair and skin feel.
Weekly maintenance with color neutralizing shampoo - You’ve probably heard of Purple shampoos for blondes, but did you know that there are color depositing shampoos for all? If you’re a medium brown your hair may fade to be a brassy orange, and therefor blue is the color shampoo you need. And if you’re a dark haired friend, then red undertones may have you cringing… reach for this green option to keep you looking cool.
Refresh color monthly with a toning glaze - All hair color fades, that’s a fact. But a color toner or glaze can boost the color back up in between salon visits. Your stylist can do this for you, it’s quick and less expensive than your full appointments, but now there’s even an option to do this yourself at home.
Protect from heat and sun - Nothing pulls color from the hair faster that heat- because it opens up those pesky pores I mentioned above. So protect from your hot tools and the sun! This little spray is like sunscreen for your hair… a must have for the warmer months especially.
Cheers to great hair color! xo
