5 NO-HEAT HAIR STYLES TO TRY

Summer is the perfect time to take a break from the hot tools, and instead focus easy quick styles that embrace the texture of your hair while making your morning routine a little more relaxed. I took on the challenge of an entire week with no heat, and documented each day- to give you some ideas and some encouragement to try it as well! You can catch a few of these tutorials saved over on my instagram highlights, and the full recap video over on Studio 5.

OVER NIGHT FRENCH BRAID WAVES

This one is probably my most used overnight style because it is predictably good for me when I take it out. I’ve learned that my hair does best if I put the braids in dry or only SLIGHTLY damp hair. If it’s too wet it’ll be kicky and frizzy (and sometimes still wet) in the morning. But this will vary on everyones hair type, so experimenting is key! When I remove the braids, I start by changing my parting for more volume, then I use a texture spray for more definition, and finally I use a smoothing oil to calm the ends.

OVER NIGHT DOUBLE BUN WAVES

HOT TIP: Any time your sleeping with your hair up, be sure you are using a coiled hair tie (best option) or a scrunchie to hold the hair. We want to avoid breakage and traditional elastics can do that, plus the coiled tie won’t leave any dents or lines in the hair when you remove it in the morning.

Overnight buns are another great way to create curls and waves with very little work. You can try a single bun or double buns- just be sure you leave your ends OUT OF THE BUN for the last two or so inches. If you wrap them in you’ll end up with tight curly-Q’s that won’t match the texture of the rest of your curls. Again, do not put your buns in when your hair is wet, otherwise you won’t be dry by morning. Once you take them out, style as you prefer… I often reach for a dry shampoo or volume powder to create some more lift on my roots after I take my buns out too.

OVER NIGHT ROBE TIE TWIST WAVES

This one is a great alternative to overnight braids- so if you can’t braid this could be your winner. Essentially the belt acts as a curler that your hair wraps around to form waves, but it’s much more comfortable to wear that overnight curlers. There are lots of YouTube videos out there on this technique, so you can search those to find more results.

CROWN TWIST STYLE

CROWN TWIST STYLE

On day 2-3 hair this twisted crown look is such an easy style- it’s also great for camping or boating because with a little practice you can do it without a mirror. I have the full tutorial saved on my IG HERE, but essentially you are just wrapping two strands around each other, but as you move downward you incorporate a new section of hair to create a ‘laddered’ effect.

VICTORY ROLL UP STYLE

VICTORY ROLL UP STYLE

This look has been one of my go-tos for years, in fact it was one of my very first tutorials on YouTube over 7 years ago. It works best of dirty hair because the grit helps to give you more hold in your roll. The tutorial is here on my IG. This one works great for shorter hair too, just treat it as a half up style instead of pulling up the back into a pony or bun.

I’m going to keep sharing more no-heat styles through out the rest of Summer, so be sure you are following along and let me know if you have any favorites I should try as well. xo
