THE SCIENCE OF HAIR REPAIR

HAIR TECH.jpg

The science of shampoo has come a long way in recent years- and gone are the days where we are just 'cleansing' our hair in the shower. Haircare brands are investing millions of dollars and years of time into research and development, searching for solutions to heal damaged hair at the very core on a molecular level.

These professional treatments paired with at home products can undo damage to the structural bonds deep inside our hair from heat and chemicals- a process that has never before been possible. [video here]

Here are my three favorites to consider:

All of these options start with an in-salon treatment, usually as part of your color or chemical service. Then you’ll want to maintain and continue the healing with the proper at-home products too. For best results introduce them right after a chemical or color service to quickly combat any damage caused. Cumulative use over time will make the biggest difference.

  • For Minimal Damage and Daily Strength: Redken Acidic Bonding Regimen Shampoo & Conditioner (salon or ulta) This one uses the power of pH to smooth and restore shine to the outer shell of the hair. Citric acid brings the pH down, closing the hairs cuticle resulting in less frizz, better curl patterns and, less split ends.

  • For Chemical & Bleach Damage: Olaplex Bond Hair Perfecter & Maintenance Shampoo & Conditioner (salon or sephora) It’s the most well known in this category and for good reason! The results speak for themselves when it comes to bringing chemically treated hair back from the dead. You’ll want to use at least No3 for bond repair, and then No4 and No5 are the shampoo and conditioner designed to hydrate and smooth.

  • For Excessive Heat Damaged Hair: K18 Leave-In Molecular Repair Mask (salon or K18hair.com) Although this one is also great for chemical damage, I’ve seen the best results with those who have heat damage and breakage. This one repairs in the deepest level of the hair, by strengthening the amino acid chains using polypeptides. It’ll strengthen the hairs core allowing for breakage to be a thing of the past.
