There's a new buzzword floating around the beauty world... it's called 'Hair Botox' and although that might conjure images of needles and injections into your mind, it's actually much less invasive. Hair Botox isn't a specific brand, but rather an umbrella term to describe an in-salon treatment for the hair that has similar anti-aging and smoothing results as you would get with botox. It's better to think of it as more of a 'skincare facial' but for your hair.

What is Hair Botox?

  • It's a semi-permanent hair treatment done at a salon, that will infuse hair with vitamins, healthy fats, and even bond correctors like Keratin. The treatment typically lasts about 4-6 weeks (there are at-home products using the term ‘hair botox’ available to buy online, but the technology for longer lasting results will be found in salon-only brands)

How is it different from other treatments in the past called Keratin Straightening treatments?

  • Straightening treatments work by breaking or weakening bonds in the hair, and then reshaping them to a straighter alignment. The chemicals used in these treatments are much stronger and can also have some negative side effects. Hair Botox is different in that it is a conditioning treatment only and will not straighten hair or change the bond structure of the hair.

Who is a good candidate for Hair Botox?

  • Anyone feeling like they need a major jolt of moisture or strength to damaged hair. Anyone who bleaches or colors their hair, or anyone looking for help with split ends, hair porosity issues. It is great for a special occasion like a wedding, or just as a regular interval in between cuts and colors a few times a year. 

What happens in a Hair Botox treatment?

    • Detox wash of the scalp and hair

    • Application of the Botox Treatment itself based on what your hair needs. Typically brands that make these treatments use a two part system that includes a vitamin or protein shot and a hydrating lipid activator. The treatment then sits for 10-30 minutes

    • A heat style will seal in the ingredients for a semi permanent results
