DITCHED YOUR LASH EXTENSIONS? 4 DAILY ENHANCERS INSTEAD

If quarantine has re-racked your priorities a little, and you’ve decided to embrace the less is more approach- you may be part of the large number of women deciding to keep their beauty routines more simple. Recently Studio 5 did a poll on their IG feed, asking followers if they were going to ditch their lash extensions for good? Almost 80% of responders said ‘YES!’ and we couldn’t help but take notice of that large amount. So I thought it might be helpful to give you a few tips for enhancing and brightening the eyes daily, giving yourself a little less to commit to when it comes to your lashes.

MY BEAUTY ROOM MAKEOVER // THE SNOOP LAB

MY BEAUTY ROOM MAKEOVER // THE SNOOP LAB

Finally! That’s the best word to describe my office [aka the Beauty Lab] makeover. It has been years in the making… er I mean, WAITING! But as you all know big home renovations take time, and this one was no exception.

The main main goal was STORAGE for all of my beauty products- and there are a lot, I know. I was tired of the room looking messy even when it was clean, because there was simply too much clutter exposed with a lack of covered storage. So we went hard with the storage and I am so happy with how it all turned out. I can put everything away behind closed doors, and that is worth a million bucks!

OVERWHELMED AT ULTA? SEND ME IN COACH!

OVERWHELMED AT ULTA? SEND ME IN COACH!

Recently a viewer wrote in to the show asking for a little guidance. Her name is Claire and she is 59 years old- she told us that she wanted to buy some new makeup for herself and was actually given a gift card to Ulta, but hadn’t yet spent it because she felt overwhelmed knowing what products were best for her maturing skin.

I am sure that Claire didn’t expect to be thrust on camera when she wrote into the show, but I knew that the best way for her to get over her fear shopping at Ulta, was just to actually take her into the store and help her navigate. I wish I could do this for more of you, but hopefully this will help you if you’ve ever felt this way too!?

LADIES, IT'S TIME TO SHAVE YOUR FACE

Facetune 183.JPG

Yup, you read that right… shave your face!

I’ve actually mentioned these razors many times on this blog, but I get asked often about peach fuzz, so I wanted to do a follow up. I’m of the belief that peach fuzz is cute on babies, but not so cute on grown women. But almost all of us have it- it’s totally normal of course, it just doesn’t lend itself to good makeup application so that’s why it’s gotta go! Watch my shaving in action on my IG highlight called ‘Peach Fuzz’

I reccomend these disposable razors designed to be used 2-3 times before they are tossed. They quickly remove the blonde soft hairs found on your cheeks, jawline, neck and even hairline. Just be sure you avoid trying to remove dark or coarse hair with them, they will tug and pull on those and leave you with stubble.

Steps to use a facial razor to get rid of Peach Fuzz:

  1. Work with clean dry hair… right after a hot shower or bath is best because the hairs have been softened, and they will stand out from the skin most prior to moisturizing etc. so you’ll be able to see them easily.

  2. Shave in natural light in front of a window using a hand mirror- better light will make the whole process easier.

  3. Pull the skin taut with one hand, and shave in downward motions with the other… working WITH THE GRAIN of the hair growth. you can hear the razor cutting the hairs, once the sound stops you can move on to the next section.

  4. Shave everything 3-4 weeks as needed, and use a sharp razor for best results (2-3 uses max per razor), my favorites can be found at Sally’s or Amazon

Happy Shaving! xo

ARE BEAUTY SUPPLEMENTS A SCAM?!

Facetune (8).JPG

Well no - not a scam, but there are definitely MAJOR variances out there as far as quality of ingredients and effectiveness. So it is essential that you take only the best quality beauty supplements otherwise you won’t see results and really you’re just flushing money down the toilet.

I firmly believe that supplements are a great way to fill in the gaps in our diets and promote healthy results. When it comes to beauty, so much of it comes from WITHIN right?! Healthy skin and hair are a product of healthy insides, and then we can enhance that from the outside with makeup and styling etc.

I’ve recently been impressed with two supplements out there, and I wanted to shed a spotlight on them for you all, incase you are looking for a boost in your inner wellness too!

  • Halo Beauty Hair, Skin & Nails + Halo Beauty Kiwi Booster. Halo was created by one of the most amazing women in the beauty industry Tati Westbrook. Her goal was to source the HIGHEST quality ingredients from all over the world and combine them in the perfect dosages for optimal beauty results. She hired physicians and nutritionists to formulate the ingredients and well as scoured the US for the best labs to make her dream a reality. I have personally seen amazing results in the texture of my skin, and the amount of moisture it holds, as well as the strength and shine in my hair. The Hair, Skin & Nail formula contains biotin for hair and nail growth, but not everyone reacts well to Biotin (can cause breakouts in some), so she also made the Kiwi formula without Biotin that focuses solely on skin health. Check out the full list of ingredients here

  • OLLY Flawless Complexion Gummies Are a little less pricey and easy to pick up at Target or CVS, but the ingredients and formula are both spot on. This supplement is designed to help clear skin from acne and inflammation, and uses plant based ingredients to do so. It is gluten free and tastes super yummy actually, but my acne has really improved since adding this to my daily nutrition.

I don’t reccomend taking more than one beauty supplement at once unless they are specifically designed to work together. Over taking your daily % needed won’t result in extra benefits- your body will simply flush out the excess and therefore it is wasted. Stick to the dosages and be consistent for best results!

Let me know if you try them and what your results are, xo

Facetune 156.JPG
SPOILER ALERT: 4 out of 5 are actually FREE! wahoo

Stepping up your beauty game doesn't require fancy vanity lights or a course in makeup artistry, simple changes and a mindset shift make a HUGE difference, and I am excited to encourage you to try them all. [video here]

  1. Commit to one day a week where you take the time to FULLY get ready. SCHEDULE out time for yourself and go through the whole process- wash and style your hair, sit down with your makeup and experiment with new techniques, products or colors, and then take a selfie and conquer the day!! My skills only improve when I experient and try new things with my beauty routine- but that means I need to slow down and make that a priority! Cost: $0
  2. Wash your makeup brushes. Clean brushes perform better, and that's the bottom line- you'll have better blending and easier application with clean brushes and sponges. Throw on an episode of your favorite show, and get to work scrubbing. Your face will thank you! Cost: $0
  3. Apply your makeup in front of a window- which may mean plopping yourself down on the floor with a hand mirror instead of standing in your bathroom mirror. Natural light will give you the BEST results in your application. You'll be able to see when your foundation needs more blending, or your blush is too bright. A small change that makes a BIG difference! Cost: $0
  4. Declutter your makeup stash- with a goal to keep only the things that you use at least 3 times a week. What sparks joy, and what is just a filler product that 'you may use someday'? Also, throw out expired products! Organize and create an order in which you apply your products to make things more efficient... Cost: $0
  5. Invest in a luxury lipstick- I mean your perfect 'power shade' that makes you feel confident and beautiful. Bonus points for packaging that is beautiful and something you're excited to see everytime you look at it. Cost: $25

Be sure and enter my giveaway happening over on instagram, to win 3 luxury lipsticks valued at over $75! Tell me your favorite ways to improve your beauty game... xo

4 COOL IN-SHOWER PRODUCTS

IMG_2534 2.jpg

The shower is a place where we spend a LOT of our lives, so we may as well use it to our advantage and get some added benefits in there while we are simultaneously getting clean!

These products are all designed specifically to be used in the shower- they utilize the steam and heat to be more effective; [video here]

  • In Shower Moisturizer: Nivea In Shower Body Lotion Skip the lotion or moisturizer, and add this into your shower routine instead. Its a cream formula that rinses off but leaves behind just the right amount of moisture. I love it because there is no sticky or greasy residue, or that 'wait time' before getting dressed like there is with traditional lotions.
  • In Shower Self Tan: St Tropez In-Shower Gradual Tan Now this one is a little tricky to use, BUT for the right person it can be awesome. I recommend this one for maintaining a tan you already have, especially just on your arms and legs. It's not ideal for an all over tan including your face and back. Keep in mind that you also need to step out of the stream of water for three minutes while it processes before rinsing, so it can be a little cold to use. That being said if you do use it daily you'll build a nice subtle glow.
  • In Shower Hair Treatment: Garnier Sleek Shot In-Shower Styler This one is really unique and does a great job of speeding up your blow-dry routine. You actually mix the Sleek Shot with your shampoo in equal parts, rinse and then condition as usual. It's ingredients include Argan Oil which helps to smooth the hair during the blowdry process, and may even allow you to skip the flat iron.
  • In Shower Face Mask: Clean & Clear 60 Second In-Shower Deep Action Mask I LOVE this one because you really do get a little bit of the spa in 60 seconds. It cleanses, exfoliates, and steams the pores all in one product. And it leaves the skin feeling tingly, cool and refreshed. A great option for teens too- because its quick and no fuss!

 Happy showers! xo

IS DRY SHAMPOO BAD FOR YOUR SCALP?

We've come to use and rely on

Dry Shampoos

to extend the life of our hairstyles and help us skip a wash or two during the week- but it's important to spend a little extra time on the days we DO wash, to ensure that our scalp health remains in tact. Otherwise our scalps can begin to have issues with bacteria growth, clogged hair follicles or even (in RARE cases) hair loss.

Be smart and use common sense with your Dry Shampoos, and you'll be fine! If your scalp has become dry, flaky or irritated- then you may need to lay off the Dry Shampoo and only use it once a week. If you notice bumps in the scalp, like acne, you've got clogged follicles that need a breather until they heal. And if there's any sort of smell coming from the scalp, things have progressed to an unsafe level where bacteria could be growing. [

video here

]

Here are some

basic Dry Shampoo tips:

1-

Limit use of Dry Shampoo to 2 days in a row

followed by a thorough double washing on day 3.

2-

Only use on dry hair!

Once moisture from sweat or humidity is involved bacteria will begin to form and a traditional shampoo is needed to cleanse the scalp.

3-

Spray Dry Shampoo on the underside of the HAIR itself

, not aimed directly at the scalp/skin.

Once every other week or so, it's a great idea to spend a little extra time on your scalp. Thoroughly loosening and cleansing the scalp ensures your skin and follicles are getting proper blood circulation and your hair will look and feel better as a result.

MAKEUP TIPS FOR MATURE SKIN

Mature skin, Makeup for mature skin, women over 50 makeup

You asked for it- and it's here! My top

tips for applying makeup once your skin has hit that 'mature' mark

. I know I am not there yet, so you may be thinking, 'Megan, what do you know!?' and I can see your point. But as a working makeup artist for over 15 years, and as someone who STUDIES the industry like a crazy person, I do think I know a few things that could be really helpful to you!

So here are a few of my recommended tips and products that will leave you feeling more confident and beautiful no matter your age. [

Over 50? Do This...  Not That

  • Do Lift Brows with Highlight and Natural Brow Strokes... Don't overly pencil in harsh brows when your hairs are scarce, you'll draw more attention to the scarcity and visually weigh the eye down. Chella Highlight Stick // NYX Micro Brow Pencil

  • Do use blush on the higher points of the cheeks to accentuate and lift cheekbones... Don't streak blush across the length of the cheekbone, or focus on the front apple of the cheek. This will bring the look of the cheek down lower on the face and accentuate loss of volume on the cheeks. Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush

  • Do conceal the undereye all the way across the cheekbone to the temple using a color that is close to your skin tone... Don't conceal only the moon shape under eyes in the socket or use overly bright/light tones. This will only cause more contrast next to the shadows of your fine lines and make them appear darker and deeper. La Girl Peach Corrector and Concealer

  • Do define lashes with a soft line of shadow... Don't use harsh/black eyeliner around the eye it will close down the eye, accentuate loose skin and age you up. Makeup Revolution Rose Gold Chocolate Bar Palette

  • Do use a clear lip liner and powdered lipstick to keep lip color from feathering into fine lines... don't use a waxy/ glossy or wet lipstick that will travel and accentuate lines around the lips. Pixi Clear Lip Liner // Karity Lip Lock

4 EASY RULES FOR WEARING NUDE MAKEUP

rules for wearing the nude makeup trend

Wearing Nude toned makeup is a beautiful way to look pulled together without looking over done. However it can quickly go into 'blah' territory and wash you out if you are not careful. Here are four tips to keep you looking polished while wearing the look. [

Video Here

]

Rules for wearing Nude Makeup:

Keep your Lipstick shade1-2 levels darker than your skin tone (not lip tone) and opt for a pink or peach hint. Avoid Beige or Grey toned nudes- those will make you look dead.

Don't forget the lashes! When wearing nude toned eyeshadow, do not skimp on the mascara. Other wise your eyes will disappear and look washed out.

BROWS, BROWS, BROWS-  groomed and filled brows will frame the eyes and elevate the look, to keep you looking fresh. Otherwise it can quickly go into the 'no makeup' look, which is not the same is wearing Nude makeup.

Color on the cheeks keeps you looking ALIVE! When the tone on eyes and lips is subdued, don't forget to add some color and glow to the cheeks, so the face still has dimension and doesn't look flat.

MAKE YOUR MORNING ROUTINE FASTER

Everyone needs a little more time in their lives- but we all only have 24 hours in a day.

Make the most of your morning routine by becoming more efficient

with your products and time management. I put together 3 of my fav time saving products and 3 of my time saving tips! [Video

Here

]

Time Saving Beauty Products:

  • Pixi Multi Balm Dab the same color on cheeks and lips for a quick pop of color and moisture in a single product.

  • Kristin Ess Dry Shampoo Soak up oil and give more volume to the hair with a dry shampoo, BUT be sure to apply it at night before bed for maximum results when you skip the shower in the morning.

  • Power Dry Me A Blow Dry Accelerator that repels moisture out of the hair so that your blow dry time is reduced by up to 40%.

Time Saving Beauty Tips:

Keep your morning creams in the kitchen and or fridge

, and apply them while your prepping or eating breakfast. The coolness of an eye cream fresh from the fridge will de-puff bags under your eyes, and applying them while waiting for your toast to pop will save you time later when applying makeup, you will also have better results when you allow your creams to set into the skin longer prior to applying makeup.

Declutter your makeup stash and keep only your 'use everyday products' in front of you- and keep your 'extras' stored away. The rule is:

'If I don't use this product at least 3 times per week, it doesn't belong in my makeup bag.'

This will cut down on time digging through your makeup bag passed all the clutter. Opt for stackable baskets and divide into categories for quick reference and easy locating.

Dial in on the order in which you apply your products

- and then stick to the list for speed! You can even print out a cheat sheet and tape it to your mirror to help you until you memorize the order. Knowing what to reach for and exactly where it is will speed up your routine more than anything else. Make it a game and set a timer too, nothing kicks you in to gear like a ticking clock!

Beauty Cheat Sheet: (Print it out and tape it to your mirror until you've got it memorized)

GET AN OOPS-PROOF CAT EYE

Maybelline Curvitude Liner Review, Hard Candy Oopsy Proof Liner Remover review

If you are like me, you struggle to use liquid liner and get an even cat-eye. It's so freaking hard! Even after so many years applying makeup to myself and others, it still causes me to sweat when it comes time to

apply a sharp liquid liner

.

I am always on the lookout for tools that will make the task easier, and finally I have found the perfect combo of liners that are making my life so much easier. So, if you hate that darned cat-eye too, check out these bad boys!

  • Maybelline Curvitude Liner This guy is my new best friend! That bent neck makes all the difference in the world when it comes to using a liquid liner. The angled tip allows you to more easily work around your lashes and to SEE what your doing as you do it. The tip is also super fluid and leaves a tug-free black line that can be super fine or thick depending on your pressure. It stays put all day as well, and dries down *almost* completely matte.

  • Hard Candy Oopsy-Proof Liner Eraser Now for those of us who need a little extra help, reach for this miracle worker to correct any mistakes after you've applied the liner. It goes on clear and wipes away the liner quickly and easily. It's great to even out the two sides, change the angle of your flick, or sharpen up any blurry edges. Life changing!

I hope you'll pick them up and give them a try, let me know how it goes in the comments below!

MAJ HAIR VOLUME WITH UPLIFTING POWDER

Lack of volume is still the number one complaint I hear in the salon.

I am one of those complainers, ha!

I wanted to share a few products today that give major volume- but aren't as commonly used as products like dry shampoo or mousse to achieve volume.

Lifting Powders

are a super fine powder that thickens the hair at the root by bonding to the hairs.

They tend to have a slightly tacky feeling when touched, and they don't make heir

feel

cleaner like dry shampoos do, but they work so well for their actual purpose... lifting!

I love to use them on day 2 or 3 hair when my roots really need a boost. You simple shake the fine powder into the roots (you can't always see or feel that it's going on because its such a fine powder it's almost invisible and weightless), then massage through and finally brush out. If you are wondering what they are made of, it's mostly ingredients that absorb and thicken- think starch and silica.

Here are a few of my favs and where you can purchase them:

Have you tried these magic powders before? Let me know in the comments below, xo

HEAL CRACKED HEELS WITH THESE FOOT SAVERS

Summer sandal season is upon us and I think it's safe to assume most of us could use a little foot tune-up! So if you are dealing with cracked heels, dry calluses, or just need a night to pamper yourself- take a look at my recommended foot products for good looking piggies.

Exfoliate first

to loosen dead, dry skin and soften the surface layers

Mild Exfoliation

Medium Exfoliation

  • Amope Pedi Perfect Roller Like an electric sander for your feet, this guy will grind away tough callouses in a snap. Best for small areas like the sides of your big toes and the balls of your feet

Major Exfoliation

  • Peeling Foot Mask If you are looking for MAJOR exfoliation this peeling mask is for you. It takes a few days to see results but be prepared for a whole new foot to emerge after the outer most layers slough off in large chunks. Gross but effective!

Nourish Next

to replenish lost moisture and keep skin soft

Mild Nourishment

  • L'Occitane Foot Cream My tried and true favorite with just the right amount of rich hydration and a refreshing minty scent that takes you to the spaaahh. (if your own bathroom of course ;)

Medium Nourishment

  • Heel Sleeves These half-socks go perfectly with your foot cream, but also work on their own to hydrate dry cracked heels. They are lined with a gel that is infused with oils to leave heels feeling like a million bucks when worn overnight.

Maximum Nourishment

  • Flexitol Heel Balm The miracle cream you've been looking for... wear it every night (with your heel sleeves for extra love) and see a major improvement in a week. Then maintain your soft heels by using it about 3 times a week after your heels have been repaired.

Cheers to Summer! xo

YOU'RE TOO OLD FOR THAT MAKEUP

There comes a time in everyone's life when we realize that we are not as young as we once were. It can happen when we least expect it too- like when you suddenly throw out your back while doing an activity you've done a thousand times before!?! Ugh, the worst.

Well today's post is all about getting older in regards to your makeup. It's a question I get asked a lot;

'Am I too old for that?'

Here's the thing,

getting stuck in a makeup rut can date us in unexpected ways

. Trends change and so does our skin with age, so

both

updating and evolving are crucial.

I'm breaking down a few suggestions for you when it comes time to re evaluate your makeup routine at every age. So grab your trash can and let's get started. [

Video Here

]

And if you are still wearing the same makeup you wore in High School, then YES- you are to

o old for that!

In your 30's:

Time to ditch the frosted cool tones, SILVERY or white eye shadows, and instead opt for colors found in nature. Stick with warmer tones that accentuate your eye color and pair nicely with your blush and lip makeup. Silvery or Icy shadows were all the rage in the 90's but that was almost 20 years ago!... Time to move on and move up to a more sophisticated palette.

In your 40's:

Move on from all things GLITTER, and instead opt for matte shadows, lip glosses, blushes, bronzers... everything really! As our skin begins to form fine lines and wrinkles, formulation matters most. Glitter is often very drying and can cause irritation plus it can collect in creases in the skin and accentuate wrinkles. So opt for a subtle shimmer at the

most

around the eyes, cheeks and lips.

In you 50's and 60's +:

Opt for BROWN eyeliner and say goodbye to black liner all together. [Or opt to ditch liner completely for a brighter option even still!] Black liner 'ages up' every women, and at this point in our lives we are wanting to look and feel younger. Keep the eyes bright and open with a softer rim of color. Remember

dark colors close off

or make smaller, so black around sagging eyes is not flattering. Focus on mascara and a soft shadow to open up the eye and look more youthful.

'http' : 'https';if(!d.getElementById(id)) {e = d.createElement(s);e.id = id;e.src = p + '://' + 'widgets.rewardstyle.com' + '/js/shopthepost.js';d.body.appendChild(e);}if(typeof window.__stp === 'object') if(d.readyState === 'complete') {window.__stp.init();}}(document, 'script', 'shopthepost-script');
