Summer tends to take a toll on our hair with the added sunlight, heat and chlorine especially, so Fall is a great time for a fresh cut and a new start before the Holidays. Here are three fresh Fall haircuts that I am obsessing over… We’ve been seeing these beautiful cuts bouncing around our socials and celebrities in recent weeks, and the buzz behind them has the salon world excited.
Thanks to the popularity of two reality shows based in Utah, the term ‘Utah Curls’ has gained its’ own headlines in the news. Articles both locally, nationally, and even aboard have popped up- noting that the women of Utah have their own signature take on curls.
So what makes Utah Curls different? It’s actually the lack of curl at both the root and the ends of the hair, with the only real curl through the mid lengths of the hair. This style is especially prevalent in longer hair and extension wearers, but it can be adapted to all lengths as well.
Summer is heating up and with that we may be finding ourselves looking for quick easy ways to get our hair up and out of the way. The goal here is to take the easy styles you are already wearing, but to make a couple tweaks so they feel more intentional and elevated. Plus I’ll give you my recipe for that uber popular style these days… the slick back ponytail.
If you are struggling with hair that feels brittle, dry, frizzy... or even like it never fully gets clean- you could be battling effects of the minerals in your water. 'Hard water' as they call it is full of Magnesium and Calcium- but we also find traces of iron, zinc, aluminum and even copper in some water.
These minerals cause havoc on hair; Brittle hair that snaps, clogged hair follicles cause hair loss, fading of your hair color, yellowing of your hair... the list goes on, and none of it is good.
So besides adding a water softener system into your home, there are a few other things you can do to combat these issues at the source.
Today we are rounding up some of the newest innovations in the hair tool world- to let you know what's out there and give you a little taste of the technology and advancements in the hair industry. Whether you are looking for more volume, easier curls, or a sleeker do... I’ve got you covered.
2023 seems to be the year of giving beauty trends a reimagined energy by using specific catchy names... think 'Glazed Donut Nails', 'Latte Makeup' or 'Glass Skin Skincare'.
The haircut world is no different and we are seeing classic cuts and shapes re-emerge onto the scene with new names and an updated styling approach. Let's look at a few cuts that fit this bill and find out who they might be best suited for...
Are you longing for luscious, voluminous locks without relying on hair extensions? Well, you're in luck! I've been in the hair game a long time and these are some tried and true tips to help you achieve that enviable fullness naturally. Say goodbye to hair extensions and hello to your own lush mane!
What is hair oiling? Hair oiling has picked up major steam lately thanks to social media spreading the word about its' benefits, but it's actually a tradition dating back thousands of years in many Asian and Indian cultures.
Who is a good candidate for hair oiling? literally everyone! It's great for creating shine and restoring moisture on any hair, but its especially helpful for anyone who color treats or bleaches, uses heat for styling and has breakage, has curly hair, frizzy or fly away hair, and anyone trying to grow longer hair. Here is how to do it and a few of my recommended products to get you started.
There's a new buzzword floating around the beauty world... it's called 'Hair Botox' and although that might conjure images of needles and injections into your mind, it's actually much less invasive. Hair Botox isn't a specific brand, but rather an umbrella term to describe an in-salon treatment for the hair that has similar anti-aging and smoothing results as you would get with botox.
Fall 2022 is all about the BOTTLENECK bangs, the sassy younger sister of the CURTAIN BANG we’ve been loving over the last couple years. The Bottleneck bang features a shorter fringe through the center of the forehead that then disconnected into a curtain on either side of the eyes and cheekbones. But is this trend right for you and your particular face shape? This is a question every women should ask themselves before a haircut. So let’s break down my guide for finding the perfect cut based on your face shape.
GLASS HAIR is all the rage with celebs these days, its a beautiful trend that focuses on silky straight strands that reflect tons of light and shine. The process to achieve Glass Hair takes a few special products however, and a little extra time in your routine. It also requires quite a bit of heat styling as well, so I don't advise that you are doing this more than once a week, but your style will last several days with the proper technique...
The science of shampoo has come a long way in recent years- and gone are the days where we are just 'cleansing' our hair in the shower. Haircare brands are investing millions of dollars and years of time into research and development, searching for solutions to heal damaged hair at the very core on a molecular level.
These professional treatments paired with at home products can undo damage to the structural bonds deep inside our hair from heat and chemicals- a process that has never before been possible.
Good hair days may be partially luck, but there's also a rhyme and reason to achieving them more often. After 17 years as a hair stylist, I like to think I have seen it all- and these are the tips I would suggest for having more good hair days.
I have had the chance to give a few really BIG haircuts in my career, but nothing will ever top this one. Kelly hasn’t had her haircut in 25 years!!! You read that right… and her hair drapes well past her knees. But for her retirement from KSL TV after 40 years, we decided to give her a major makeover. She literally looks 15 years younger and her beautiful soul now radiates through her outward appearance. Take a look!
We are coming into colder weather- and our skin tends to go into a little bit of 'shock' when the temps drop and we turn up the heat inside. This major environmental change affects our scalps too, and it can lead to flaking, dryness, and itchiness, as well as cause negative effects on our hair like static electricity and dull looking locks. Today I am sharing a 5 step scalp care routine- that might have you wondering ‘where has this been all my life?’ Dramatic? No, never…
Summer is the perfect time to take a break from the hot tools, and instead focus easy quick styles that embrace the texture of your hair while making your morning routine a little more relaxed. I took on the challenge of an entire week with no heat, and documented each day- to give you some ideas and some encouragement to try it as well!
If you’re looking for a little something fun to do with your girls (and boys!) while you’re on lock down, it might be a fun time to try out some of those crazy hair colors!? Our regular rules have gone out the door- no dress codes to adhere to and no photos to be worried about… might as well let them express their style and have some fun bonding while you do it. Here’s a look at what my girls chose, and links to some product ideas.
Here’s the thing- you spend a LOT on your hair color, not only money but time! So I always recommend you protect that investment with an at-home routine that will keep your color looking better longer. Why only get 5 weeks when you can get 8+ of rich color and shine!? Here’s how:
