SMOOTHER HAIR WITH 'HAIR BOTOX'

SMOOTHER HAIR WITH 'HAIR BOTOX'

There's a new buzzword floating around the beauty world... it's called 'Hair Botox' and although that might conjure images of needles and injections into your mind, it's actually much less invasive. Hair Botox isn't a specific brand, but rather an umbrella term to describe an in-salon treatment for the hair that has similar anti-aging and smoothing results as you would get with botox.

3 EASY (AND COMFY) OVERNIGHT HEATLESS CURLS

Megan’s top here

Speeding up that morning routine is always on our list- whether its for ourselves or our daughters, waking up with hair ready to go is so helpful... There are lots of ways to give yourself overnight curls, and I've tested them all! Here are my 3 favorite techniques for waking up curled. [video here]

3 easy and comfortable overnight heatless curls

Remember that the smoother the hair is when you wrap it, the smoother the curls will come out in the morning. So I recommend clean-ish hair that is fully dry for most hair types. I also recommend you use larger sections of hair to get looser curls, or if you do have resistant hair smaller sections will give you more holding power.

For those with SUPER curl resistant hair, you may try blow drying in a firm hold gel until you are about 90% dry, then wrapping and wearing overnight.

  • Pillow puff curlers These are the updated version of rag curlers, with a foam core and built in wire that makes using them much quicker with no knot tying required. I prefer the silk version for less frizz and tension on the hair.

  • Spa Headband This method lays the flattest on your head for a more comfortable sleep. Start with the band across your forehead while you wrap, after your hair is secured you can slide the band up onto the top of the head and secure with a claw clip if needed to ensure you have more comfort throughout the night.

  • Diet Coke Socks (or any long sock :) This one is my personal favorite because of the speed in which it goes in and out. If you have shorter hair you can actually use 4 socks; teo in front and teo in back to ensure the hair stays wrapped all night.

MAKEUP BRUSHES DECODED - PLUS 4 YOU NEED!

The Makeup aisle can be daunting, especially when it comes to the HUGE variety of brushes and applicators available to us these days. It seems as though there is always a new gizmo or gadget promising flawless results and more ease than ever before- but knowing a few key basics will go a long way to helping you decipher those buzz words. So lets dive into what you need to know about your makeup brushes and how you can let THEM do the work for you. [video here]

Two key factors for identifying the purpose of a makeup brush: DENSITY and CUT

  • DENSITY is the amount a bristles packed into the head of the brush.

    • A more dense brush will feel firmer to the touch and will have less drag on the skin. These brushes are best for spreading liquid and cream product through buffing or tapping.

    • A less or loose density brush will be better for swiping or swirling powder products because the brushes will glide and bend over the skin without tugging.

  • CUT is the shape in which the bristles are cut after they've been glued into the head of the brush.

    • Common cuts are flat, round, domed, angled, pencil, and paddle. By analyzing the shape of the brush we can determine what part of the face it will fit best in, and what type of blend it will produce.

So knowing this, you'll want to look at your collection and determine if you are using your brushes to the fullest potential, or if you are missing a couple that could make application quicker and more efficient.

Here are a few unique favorites of mine- that may be missing from your collection... They each serve a unique purpose and make my routine far more efficient.

  • bdelium face blending brush This is a large flat brush with a sharp edge to the cut... making it ideal for creating precise lines used for adding bronzer and contour

  • Luxie 207 angled shading brush This brush is unique in that it is full and fluffy but still cut at an angle so it fits perfectly into the crease of the eye and you can almost use it as a stamp to create symmetry on both eyes

  • Real Techniques Filtered Cheek Brush Most blush brushes are quite full and fluffy, which will spread the product further- but this brush is cut much smaller to give you a precise control over where your color goes

  • It Cosmetics Essential Concealer Brush This brush is the perfect 'spatula' shape... making it ideal for scooping up creams and putties and then pressing them into the pores on the skin

DID YOU SAY MAKEUP PUTTY?!

DID YOU SAY MAKEUP PUTTY?!

Have you ever tried a makeup product with a thick putty-like texture? Putty makeup products are some of my favorites, especially for mature skin- because they have a 'balmy' quality that really floats on the skin and lays nicely on texture. I also find them to be really nicely pigmented with great staying power. Sometimes they get a bad rap, but 9 times out of 10, I think it is user and application error. So let's start there!

5 POWERFUL POWDER PRODUCTS TO TRY

One day a couple weeks ago while I was getting ready I had an epiphany that I use and love several products that are all POWDER BASED. Not just your typical makeup powders though, I am talking about products for hair, skin and makeup that all major power behind them. A powder consistency can be used for better oil or moisture absorption, and also for brightening and exfoliation. So although powders aren’t always as glamorous- the results they give are worth a second look. [video here]
